The house has been tastefully renovated to sleep 6/7 people with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is on the banks of the Rio Alva in the ancient market town of Coja near Arganil, Central Portugal. There are lovely views across the river to the mountains and the nearest river beach is 200ms away.Coja is in the foothills of the Serra de Estrela, the highest mountain range in Portugal and is surrounded by spectacular countryside. There are rivers that wend their way through the valleys and beautiful views around every corner. The people are very welcoming, English is spoken in most places. This is the ideal place to relax and unwind from the hectic pace of life. There are lots of River Beaches where you can swim in the crystal clear waters or just sit and daydream of life in the sun. There are great places to eat in Coja and Arganil. The food is excellent and ranges from traditional to international and is generally cooked using only local ingredients. Try chanfana the local dish of marinaded meat cooked in the traditional bread oven and wash it down with a local Dao wine! Coja is approx.10kms from the district town of Aganil. There are places of historic interest to visit as the area was once part of Lusitania and ruled by the Romans. The Moors also ruled here for a time and were conquered with the help of the Knights Templars, there is still evidence of both. If you are looking for a taste of the `Real Portugal` then this is the place to visit. Some of the mountain villages appear to have stopped in time and can only be explored on foot through the narrow winding cobbled streets. The spectacular countryside is well worth exploring if you can pull yourself away from lazing in the sun with a glass of good wine! Come and try it yourself!
