House at Barril de Alva

Charming holiday house retaining many of its original Portuguese features and providing good self-catering accomodation. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen/dining area and a spacious lounge opening onto a sun terrace with lovely views across the river to the mountains. River beach 200ms.

The house is in the ideal place for a quiet, relaxing holiday where you can recharge your batteries with some Portuguese sunshine. It has been comfortably furnished to provide a homely atmosphere where you can enjoy the pleasures of a home from home.

There is plenty to do and see if you can pull yourself away from just lazing in the sun. The local food and wine is very good. Try the Vinho Verde for a refreshing glass with your BBQ or a good Dao red wine with your meal! The surrounding countryside offers spectacular views around every corner and the ancient little mountain villages pepper the mountainsides. The winding rivers provide swimming in the crystal clear water and some River Beaches have canoes and pedaloes for hire.

The district town of Arganil provides more restaurantes, shops and 2 large supemarkets

The nearest city is Coimbra which is boasted to be the oldest university city in Europe. It was once the capital of Portugal for a short time and is worth a visit to wander around the narrow cobbled streets and visit the university library, one of the oldest in Europe..

Kitchen/Dining Area

The kitchen/dining area is in what was once the wine cellar and retains the old stone walls and wood beams. Doors open to the patio with lovely views across the river. The kitchen has all that you need for a self catering holiday. There is a cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron and coffee machine. The dining area has a large refectory table with chairs to seat 6 people.

Lounge

The large, spacious living area has comfortable seating for 6 people. There is a wood burning stove and electric radiators for the cooler months. The lounge opens on to a sun terrace with outside furniture and lovely views over Coja and the Rio Alva. Books and games are provided and there is Sattellite TV and a CD player.

Bedroom 1

The main bedroom is on the ground floor and has a double bed. There is an ensuite shower room where you will also find a washing machine.

Bedroom 2

This bedroom has an antique double bed and is situated on the first floor. The wooden floor has been retained as well as the old wooden shutters.

Bedroom 3

The third bedroom has 2 single beds and is also on the first floor.

Bathrooms

There are 2 bathrooms. One is the ensuite to the main bedroom the second is a full bathroom with bath located on the first floor.

Outside Area

There is a sun terrace on the first floor from the lounge and a patio and private garden from the the kitchen. The BBQ is here and wooden garden furniture for dining outside looking over the river. Parking is off road at the front of the house for 1 car.

What is provided?

All the bed linen including sheets and pillowcases as well as towels are provided. There are no beach towels please do not remove the towels from the house. Electricity and water are included in the rental rate and the house is cleaned once a week.

Charming holiday house in the pretty village of Barril de Alva near Arganil, Central Portugal. Beautiful views across the valley. Sleeps 6/8. This house has been recently renovated to provide comfortable self catering holiday accomodation for 6 people. It is in the superb countryside of Central Portugal in the foothills of the Serra de Estrela and on the Rio Alva only 500ms to the nearest river beach.

The living room is in the renovated wine cellar where huge ceiling beams have been kept as a feature. It has comfortable seating for 6/8 people including 2 sofa beds, TV, DVD player, books and games. There is a patio door that leads out to the schist stone patio and garden terrace where you will find garden furniture for eating outside or just soaking up the sun.

The kitchen area has a cooker, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board and all pots and pans nescessary for your self catering needs. There is a dining area with table and chairs for 6 people and a door onto a breakfast terrace where you can take your breakfast whilst enjoying the beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.

There are 2 bedrooms, one has a double bed and the other 2 single beds. There are also 2 sofa beds in the lounge. The bathroom has a shower and there is also a washing machine here. There is a private garden to the front and a covered area providing welcome shade during the heat of the day with a BBQ.
